Also known as the Paediatric Palliative Care Group, the Children’s Palliative Care Special Interest Group was established as a working group of the IAPC in November 2009.

With in excess of 30 members, it is a multidisciplinary group, representative of all the service providers of children’s palliative care.

The Group addresses the emerging subspecialty of paediatric palliative care which is focussed on achieving the best possible quality of life for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.

The role of the Children’s Palliative Care SIG is to be:

• a learning network - actively promoting the application of best practice in all aspects of children’s palliative care through the sharing of knowledge, learning, experience, skills and practice in relation to the care of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions
• a source of information and data on the provision of services related to children’s palliative care on the island of Ireland
• an expert advisory group to the IAPC Board on key issues relating to the developing specialty of children’s palliative care, including service provision and policy development, implementation and monitoring
