Governance

The IAPC, under the guidance of its Chairperson and an elected Board of Directors chosen by its membership, serves as the preeminent authoritative and knowledgeable entity in the field of palliative care within Ireland. It represents a collective voice deeply rooted in the expertise and experience of its diverse membership, comprised of dedicated practitioners from various disciplines. Since its inception, the IAPC has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of palliative care provision in Ireland. In the present day, it remains committed to advocating for national policies centred on the principles of patient-centricity, equity, and universal access to palliative care services for all in need.

Furthermore, the IAPC serves as a dynamic Learning Network for individuals seeking continuous enhancement and refinement of their expertise within their respective domains. It actively fosters an environment that supports members in elevating their knowledge and advancing their professional proficiency.

The Association’s organisational structure revolves around multiple Working Groups, each strategically designed to foster collaboration, promote best practices, facilitate learning opportunities, and support the ongoing professional development, education, and research endeavours of its members. To fulfil its objectives, the IAPC offers a range of structured activities, including networking opportunities, knowledge sharing, educational initiatives, advocacy for evidence-based research, publication endeavours, participation in national committees, and influence on the formulation of national policies.

On the international stage, the IAPC maintains a robust alignment with the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC). Crucially, the insights and contributions of the IAPC’s Working Groups serve as a cornerstone for the strategic direction and policy decisions undertaken by the Board. This collaborative approach underscores the IAPC’s prominent position as the foremost collective voice for palliative care within Ireland.
