IAPC ‘Lunch and Learn’ Webinars
We are delighted to announce the IAPC Lunch & Learn series, a programme of six engaging webinars taking place across 2026 and 2027. Designed for palliative care professionals, the series provides an opportunity to learn, connect and share knowledge on a range of current topics in palliative care education, research and practice.
The first three sessions will take place before the end of 2026:
9th October 2026 | 1–2pm
’Simulation Teaching – New Approaches in Palliative Medicine Teaching’
Chaired by Dr Jennifer Hayes and presented by Prof Dara Byrne. This session will explore innovative approaches to simulation-based teaching in palliative medicine.
29th October 2026 | 1-2pm
’Development of Tracheostomy Management Guidelines in Hospices’
Chaired by Dr Claire Collins and presented by Dr Kyle Taheny and Dr Claire Parkes. This session will explore the development of guidelines for tracheostomy management within hospice settings and the practical implications for palliative care teams.
26th November 2026
’Artificial Intelligence in Palliative Care’
Chaired by Dr Cian O Leary and presented by Dr Mohamad Saab and Dr Irene Hartigan. This session will explore the opportunities and considerations surrounding the growing role of artificial intelligence in palliative care, including its potential applications in education, research and clinical practice.
The series will continue with three further sessions in 2027, with details to be announced in due course.
IAPC members can attend all Lunch & Learn webinars free of charge, while non-members can register for €25 per session.

Below is a summary of the key events and highlights from our 2025 Education and Research Seminar, which brought together professionals from across disciplines to exchange knowledge, present research, and advance collaborative practice in palliative care.
Virtual Workshops 2025
As part of the Education and Research Seminar 2025, the IAPC hosted a series of three virtual workshops, each focusing on a critical area within palliative care:
Workshop 1: “Death and Dying at the Margins – A View from the Ground”
This workshop examined the challenges faced when providing palliative care to marginalised and underserved populations. Participants explored the importance of cross-sector collaboration and shared practical insights from working with vulnerable groups.
Workshop 2: “Paediatric to Young Adult Palliative Care Challenges”
The second session addressed the complexities involved in transitioning care for young patients as they move from paediatric to adult services. Discussions centred on the need for developmentally appropriate, multidisciplinary approaches that ensure continuity and support.
Workshop 3: “Prisoners and Palliative Care”
The final workshop focused on the provision of palliative care within prison settings. It highlighted the ethical, clinical, and logistical considerations unique to this environment and encouraged dialogue on how to improve access and equity.
Collectively, the workshops brought together healthcare professionals from various disciplines, fostering thoughtful discussion, shared learning, and a deeper understanding of the diverse contexts in which palliative care is delivered.
Our 2024 Education and Research Seminar offered a rich programme of learning, dialogue, and innovation, uniting palliative care professionals from diverse backgrounds. Through thought-provoking presentations, research showcases, and interactive sessions, the seminar created a valuable space for exploring new ideas and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration to enhance care at every level.
